Participating in the Mi`raj Night celebration

Q 2: Is it permissible to participate in celebrations of Al-Mi`raj (Ascension to Heaven)?

A: It is not permissible to celebrate or participate in the celebrations of the Mawlid (the Prophet's birth day) or the event of Mi`raj (Ascension to Heaven). This is an act of Bid`ah (innovation in religion). It is authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever introduces something into this affair of ours (Islam) that is not of it, it is to be rejected. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
